Five Little Miles

(Bob Nolan)

Introduced by dialogue from the film, Utah:  Roy is instructing Bob Nolan and the Sons of the Pioneers to keep Dale Evans distracted by singing this song.

Sing Along with the Sons of the Pioneers

Pioneers:

One little, two little, three little, four little, five girls went by.

Four little, three little, two little, one little girl just caught my eye.

One little, two little, three little, four little, five girls could see

Four little, three little, two little, one little girl was meant for me.

One little, two little, three little, four little, five girls stole my heart!

Pioneers:

One little, two little, three little, four little, five girls went by.

Four little, three little, two little, one little girl just caught my eye.

One little, two little, three little, four little, five girls could see

Four little, three little, two little, one little girl was meant for me.

Bob:

Did she smile or was I dreaming?

Did she smile for me?

Did her eyes speak in their gleaming?

I wonder what they see.

Or are we -

Pioneers:

Or are we one little, two little, three little, four little, five miles apart?

Four little, three little, two little, one little mileóthere goes my -

One little, two little, three little, four little, five girls stole my heart!

Pioneers:

One little, two little, three little, four little, five chiefs went by.

Four little, three little, two little, one little chief just caught my eye.

One little, two little, three little, four little, five chiefs yelled, "Hey!

"Say! Who is this guy you've got herdin' our sheep today?

'Cus look this way."

Gabby:

Yeah, they've even got me herdin' sheep now

I'm so mad that I could pop.

I'm a whiskered Little Bo-Peep now.

Get along there, you lambchop!

The above clips are from the soundtrack of the Republic picture, Utah, 1945.  This is an example of how bits of Bob's songs were often integrated into the whole film.  Bob's original song was written this way:

Five Little Miles

 Pioneers:

One little, two little, three little, four little, five miles from you.

Four little, three little, two little, one little mile so donít feel blue.

One little, two little, three little, four little, five miles to go

Four little, three little, two little, one little mile and then youíll know

Bob:

That Iíve been counting every moment since Iíve been away

And I knew that just to go meant soon Iíd hear you sayó

Pioneers:

Itís just been one little, two little, three little, four little, five miles too far.

Four little, three little, two little, one little mile and here we are.

Bob:

I have roamed this wide world over on my merry way

But a new leaf Iíve turned over, starting from today.

Pioneers:

Or are we one little, two little, three little, four little, five miles apart?

Four little, three little, two little, one little mileóthere goes my -

One little, two little, three little, four little, five girls stole my heart!
