SONS OF THE PIONEERS FAN CLUB
NEWSLETTERS 1949 - 1952
Theresa Scott, formerly Terry Sevigny (at right with Bob Nolan and Lloyd Perryman) was secretary for the Sons of the Pioneers from 1948-1952. One of her many tasks was to keep up some kind of fan newspaper for the Sons of the Pioneers Fan Club after the New York fan club president resigned in January of 1948.
The original fan newspaper was a newsletter called The Prairie Prattler which grew into Tumbleweed Topics, a professional-looking fanzine of 8 pages including photographs which ran from 1940-1942. This, in turn, was replaced by a second Prairie Prattler fanzine in 1943 which Martha Retsch produced until 1946. Martha assisted another president, Julia Tiedemann of NYC, until it became too much to handle by 1948.
In January 1949 Terry reorganized the fan club which had well over 1000 members and started printing and sending out a simple newsletter once more. Terry kept copies for herself and scanned them for us; all but 1 which was lost. Terry's newsletters were matter of fact and factual. Thanks to Terry, a great deal can be learned from these pages about the Sons of the Pioneers of that era.
Terry's weekly salary was $10 from Tim Spencer and $5 from each of the Pioneers. Tim occasionally gave her a bonus from his music company.
After she left the Pioneers Terry worked for an advertising firm that had the Lucky Strike cigarette account for the Jack Benny Show. She continued to work Saturdays for the Sons of the Pioneers, however, and has kept in touch with the families.
