Volvere a pasar por aquí

(Bob Nolan)

My love is waiting just beyond the border

With love light dancing in her flashing eyes.

And so two hearts come to redeem a promise,

“Sí, volveré a pasar por aquí. [1]

I’ll come back to you some day.

I will surely pass this way.

Volveré a pasar por aquí.”

I know the magic of the spell that holds me

Comes from a true heart to my heart entwined.

I see a candle on the altar, glowing.

Sí, volveré a pasar por aquí.

[1] Loosely translated as I’ll be back this way again. (Patricia McDonald, January, 2004)

One of Bob Nolan's post-Sons of the Pioneers songs, "Volvere a pasar por aquí" was not registered for copyright until September 24 1985, five years after his death, when Bob's daughter discovered his home demo. Bob Nolan sang and whistled, accompanied only by his little Gibson guitar. He had an old home recording machine and he made his own wax demo 78s on it. Many years later, his grandson rented a record player and transferred the old demos to tape with indifferent success. The words above were transcribed from this tape. We were unable to find sheet music or even lead sheets and the song was never commercially recorded.
